Gujarat Titans beat Delhi Capitals by 1 run at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday in one of the most extraordinary finishes of IPL 2026 so far. Shubman Gill led from the front with a commanding half-century to help GT post 210 for 4 and Delhi, needing 211 to win their third consecutive match of the season, fell painfully short, undone not by the bowling but by a catastrophic lapse in judgment from David Miller in the final over.

Shubman Gill And Jos Buttler Build Gujarat's Platform

GT's innings was set up by two contrasting but equally effective contributions. Jos Buttler walked in early after Sai Sudharsan's dismissal and played with controlled aggression, scoring 52 off 27 balls. The English wicketkeeper batter targeted loose deliveries, rotated the strike intelligently and he ensured there was no dip in scoring rate through the middle overs. Then skipper Gill and Washington Sundar took over completely. Their 104-run partnership was built on ruthless execution against spin, sweeping with control, capitalising on anything short and giving Delhi's bowlers no way back into the game. It was the kind of stand that wins T20 matches before the chase even begins.

KL Rahul's 92 Not Enough

Delhi's chase started with intent. The Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka set an aggressive tone at the top, scoring 41 off 24 balls before a mistimed shot ended his innings. He and KL Rahul had put on 76 runs off 49 balls together and Rahul continued to build partnerships after Nissanka's departure- 29 off 18 with Miller, then 26 off 16 with Tristan Stubbs. Rahul's own knock of 92 off 52 balls was one of the finest innings of the season so far. He batted until the 17th over before falling to Mohammad Siraj. Rashid Khan then did what Rashid Khan does in pressure situations. The Afghan spinner took 3 wickets at an economy of 4.25, removing Nitish Rana, captain Axar Patel and Sameer Rizvi, the three most dangerous DC batters at that stage to drag the game firmly back towards Gujarat.

Miller's Blunder On The Final Ball

With 8 runs needed off 3 balls, Miller hit a six off Prasidh Krishna to bring the equation down to 2 off 2. On the penultimate delivery, the Proteas power hitter pulled to fine leg with a comfortable single available. Had he taken it, DC would have needed 1 off 1, a Super Over was guaranteed and Delhi could not have lost. But poor Miller sent Kuldeep Yadav back. Two needed off one ball. Prasidh bowled a slower delivery. Miller missed it completely. The pair attempted a desperate single, but before Kuldeep could make his ground, Buttler hit the stumps. GT won by 1 run. Delhi lost a match they had firmly in their grasp.

Apart from that, Vipraj Nigam had hit 22 runs in the penultimate over alongside Miller to bring Delhi back into contention, which makes the final-ball dismissal even harder to digest for DC fans. The decision to send Kuldeep back on that second-to-last ball was the moment the match turned. GT moves up the table. Delhi remains at four, but this one will definitely sting for a while for DC fans like me.
