Indian star batter Virat Kohli scripted a piece of IPL history during RCB's match against Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. In his 36th IPL appearance against CSK, RCB legend became the first player in the IPL history to score 1,000-plus runs against three different opponents, surpassing Rohit Sharma's record for the most runs scored against a single IPL franchise in the process.
The Record That Fell
Rohit had held the record with 1,161 runs in 36 matches against Kolkata Knight Riders. Kohli needed just 16 runs coming into this game to overtake that mark. He got there on the third delivery of the fourth over, off Matt Henry's bowling, and finished with 1,174 runs against CSK across 36 IPL matches. Apart from that, the 36-year star has also played one Champions League T20 game against CSK for RCB, adding 14 more runs to that particular rivalry tally.
The list of most runs against a single IPL team now reads: Virat Kohli- 1,174 vs CSK, Rohit Sharma--1,161 vs KKR, Kohli again-- 1,159 vs PBKS, David Warner-- 1,134 vs PBKS and Kohli once more-- 1,130 vs DC. Three of the top five entries belong to one player. That tells you everything about his consistency across 18 seasons of IPL cricket.
| Player | Runs | Against |

| Rohit Sharma | 1,161 | KKR |
| Virat Kohli | 1,159 | PBKS |

RCB Post 250/3
Asked to bat first, RCB put up 250 for 3 in 20 overs, a total that immediately shifted the pressure entirely onto CSK's chase. Kohli's 28 off 18 balls, with 2 fours and a six, may not look much on the scoresheet, but it set the platform on a sluggish Chinnaswamy outfield where scoring was not straightforward early on. English star Phil Salt followed with 46 off 30 balls, pushing the score along after Kohli's departure. Then Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar took the game away completely with a 58-run partnership off just 21 balls that shifted the innings from solid to extraordinary. Padikkal finished with 50 off 29.
Furthermore, what followed was pretty brutal. After Padikkal's dismissal, RCB skipper, Patidar and Tim David put together a 99-run partnership off just 35 balls for the fourth wicket. The Oz batsman was just outright destructive- 70 not out off 25 balls, hitting CSK's bowlers to all parts of the ground. On the other hand, CSK had no answers for either the pace or the variety that RCB's batting lineup brought tonight. This match carries massive weight for both sides. RCB, defending champions, are looking to build momentum and extend their winning run early in the season. CSK arrived at Chinnaswamy having already lost their first two games against Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings respectively. A third consecutive defeat would put them in a very difficult position inside the first two weeks of the tournament. At the time of writing, the chase has begun and 251 is the target.
